BRICS 2025: How 15 Nations Are Challenging the Dollar & Redefining Global Power

The BRICS alliance is no longer just a name, it is changing the playing field of the global economy. Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—these five countries have joined the alliance in the last two years, with 10 more countries joining! By the end of 2025, the combined economy of the BRICS will rival the G7. Let's find out how the world's power equation is changing!

What is BRICS? How did it start?

In 2001, a British economist said, "Brazil, Russia, India, and China (BRIC) will one day take over the global economy." His words are starting to come true. These four countries allied in 2009. When South Africa joined in 2010, the name BRICS came to be. From the beginning, their goals were twofold:

1. Reduce the dominance of the dollar

2. Break the monopoly power of Western countries

New members of BRICS: Who joined?

In 2024, 6 countries joined BRICS in the first phase:

Saudi Arabia (Oil King)

Iran (Gas-rich)

United Arab Emirates (Trade Paradise)

Argentina (Leader in Soybean Cultivation)

Egypt (Owner of the Suez Canal)

Ethiopia (Emerging Power in Africa)

In 2025, 4 more countries joined:

Indonesia (Giant of Southeast Asia)

Thailand (Leader in Tourism and Electronics)

Nigeria (Most Populous Country in Africa)

Turkey (Bridge Between Europe and Asia)

Fun Fact:

The total population of the 15 BRICS members now stands at 4.1 billion—one out of every two people in the world is a BRICS member!

Together, their GDP is $38.5 trillion—close to 90% of the GDP of the G7.

3 major achievements of BRICS

1. Trade without dollars:

Earlier, everyone used to buy and sell in dollars. Now BRICS countries are working in their currencies.

Example:

China is buying oil from Saudi Arabia in yuan.

India is buying cotton from Egypt in rupees.

In 2025, 40% of BRICS trade was done without dollars!

2. Green energy revolution:

The BRICS Bank (NDB) is investing heavily in solar and wind energy.

The world's largest solar farm is being built in South Africa—it will provide electricity to 2 million homes at once!

3. New job market:

In 2024 alone, BRICS countries created 20 million new jobs.

Especially electric car factories in Indonesia-Nigeria and semiconductor plants in India have been opened.

The problems are not few!

1. China-India tensions:

Border dispute still ongoing. Relations soured after new clashes in Arunachal in 2024.

India opposes BRICS currency launch—fear of increasing Chinese dominance!

2. Rich-poor disparity:

China's GDP is $21.3 trillion—more than the combined GDP of the other 14 countries ($17.2 trillion)!

Poverty is still terrible in Ethiopia-Egypt.

3. Western pressure:

America-Europe is increasing sanctions on BRICS countries.

The United Arab Emirates is also facing problems selling Russian oil.

2026-2030: What are the BRICS plans?

1. Launching its currency:

They want to introduce a digital currency called "BRICS Coin" by 2026.

The plan is: to create a currency based on gold so that dependence on the dollar decreases.

2. Joint military exercises:

The BRICS navies will hold their first joint exercise in October 2025.

Goal: To protect trade on the sea route.

3. Creating a medical hub:

India and South Africa are jointly building a vaccine production center.

Goal: To stockpile 500 million doses of vaccine for the next pandemic.

Will BRICS surpass the G7?

According to economists:

2030 forecast:

BRICS GDP: $55 trillion

G7 GDP: $48 trillion

Reason:

BRICS countries have a large young population (60% under 35).

Rich in natural resources—oil, gas, gold, agricultural land.

Investment in technology is increasing—AI, robotics, green energy.

Interesting example:

Chinese company Huawei is now installing a 5G network in Nigeria.

Russia and Iran are building a new pipeline together—to supply gas to Asia instead of Europe.

What does BRICS mean for ordinary people?

1. Cheaper products:

As tariffs are reduced among BRICS countries, Chinese mobile phones will be cheaper in India, and Brazilian coffee will be cheaper in South Africa.

2. New job opportunities:

5 million young people will get training and jobs every year through BRICS initiatives.

3. It will not be launched from TikTok!

BRICS' social media is going to be launched in 2026 as an alternative to Western apps.

Hope or false hope?

The success of BRICS is still very uncertain. China-India differences, Russia's war, and economic inequality—these are the big obstacles. However, if this alliance of 15 countries works together, by 2030 we will see a completely new world—where not America-Europe, but Asia-Africa-Latin America will be the new engine of the economy.
